After Surgery→
Q. How long can I expect to remain in the recovery area after surgery?
A. Patients recovering from routine surgery are in the recovery area for varying lengths of time. The average length of stay is approximately 1 hour depending on the individual needs of the patient. All patients must meet pre-established criteria for safe discharge. Patients may not feel completely recovered at the time of discharge. Home recovery is part of the ambulatory surgery process. It is not unusual for you to have some discomfort and drowsiness upon leaving.
Q. How soon after my surgery can my visitors see me?
A. We know that you may be anxious to see your friend or loved one after surgery, at this time we are not allowing visitors in the recovery area. An exception will be made for one parent of a patient who is a minor child.
Q. What if I have questions after I have gone home?
A. Both your surgeon/physician and the Center will provide written instructions for your care at home. A nurse from the Center will attempt to call you within 24-72 hours after your procedure to check on your recovery and answer any questions you may have. You may reach out to your surgeon or us at any time.
Q. Can I evaluate my experience at your center?
A. Absolutely! We encourage you to bring any experiences, good or bad, to our attention before, during and after you leave the Surgical Center. Please ask to see a member of our management team at any time.
Q. When I return home from my procedure, will I be able to resume my usual daily activities, such as caring for my small children?
A. If you’ve received anesthesia, you need to arrange for someone to stay with you for 24 hours after you return home. Check with your physician prior to your procedure regarding your schedule to resume normal activity so that you can make appropriate plans.
Q. Will the surgeon speak with my family after surgery?
A. Your physician may speak with you after your procedure; however, due to the effects of anesthesia you may not recall the conversation. Due to privacy and limited visitation policy the surgeon will not likely speak with family or friends.
Q. Can I drive myself after having anesthesia/sedation?
A. No. On discharge you MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult who may either drive you home or accompany you home in a taxi/public transportation.
